Earth First! shuts down FPL's
power plant construction site!

In a wildly successful post-rendezvous action, hundreds of Earth First! protestors shut down FPL's West County Energy Center's construction site for almost 6 hours, as well as the related Palm Beach Aggregates rock mine and a nearby cement plant. Palm Beach Aggregates is the company that sold FPL the land for the power plant as part of a corrupt land deal that has landed county commissioner Tony Masilotti in prison for five years. In addition, rock mining is one of the first steps in physically destroying Everglades wetlands and providing construction material for new development to permanently replace the wetlands.

26 people were arrested for refusing to leave the blockade after police dispersal orders. After about 36 hours in jail during which several people were handled roughly and/or assaulted, all activists were released on their own recognizance or on bond.
